.\" @(#)nibindd.8 92/05/17 rev by JJ .TH NIBINDD 8 "March 30, 1998" "Apple Computer, Inc." .SH NAME nibindd \- NetInfo binder .SH SYNOPSIS .B nibindd .SH DESCRIPTION The .I nibindd daemon is responsible for finding, creating and destroying NetInfo (\fInetinfod\fP(8)) servers. When it starts up, it reads the directory .I /etc/netinfo for directories with the extension ``.nidb'' and starts up a \fInetinfod\fP server for each NetInfo database it finds. If .I nibindd is sent a hangup signal, SIGHUP, it kills all running \fInetinfod\fP processes and rebinds the NetInfo domain hierarchy (note that this does not affect the connections established by \fIlookupd\fP(8)). This is useful for getting the system to conform to new network configuration changes without rebooting. \fInibindd\fP writes a file with its process ID number (pid file) in \fI/var/run/nibindd.pid\fP. .LP The .I nibindd daemon will automatically destroy the registration for a \fInetinfod\fP server if it disappears for any reason. It will take the \fInetinfod\fP servers down if it is shut down by sending it a terminate signal, SIGTERM. .LP \fInidomain\fP(8) is the user interface to \fInibindd\fP. .SH FILES /etc/netinfo .br /var/run/nibindd.pid .SH "SEE ALSO" netinfod(8), nidomain(8), lookupd(8)
